The Big Splash - Aviemore

The Big Splash, self proclaimed "Stupidest Event of the Year", is to be held on the River Spey by the Old Bridge Inn on Friday 31st August and Saturday 1st September. From the multi-use ten metre high ramp over the River Spey, competitors will jump with skis, snowboards, bikes, canoes, skateboards or anything fun...

The idea for "The Big Splash" was born from an event in Sweden which involves people launching themselves off a ramp into a small lake for fun, and was a big success last year

The organisers estimate that around a thousand competitors and spectators will be there with some coming from as far afield as Australia and New Zealand.

Following a practice session on Saturday morning, throughout the day, individuals and teams will compete in categories depending on the 'vehicle' for the jump and prizes will be given within each category and also to the best local business team and individual. On Sunday from noon there will be 'Hangover Cure Jumps'...

The age of competitors is restricted to 18 + or with parental consent but there are many other entertainments and sideshows for all the family, including...

The jump itself, a 10m high jump into the River Spey for multi use including skiers, snowboarders, skateboarders, mountain bikes, inline skates and anything else you can ride!!!

Entry costs are £5 per individual and £15 per team. Entry forms and further information can be obtained from The Big Splash website or from the organisers -
