Black Gold wins champion beer award Strathspey isn't just famous for its whisky - at this years Scottish Traditional Beer Festival CAMRA, the campaign for real ale voted Cairngorm Brewery's 'Black Gold' as Champion Beer of Scotland. The Cairngorm Brewery in Aviemore brews a range of premium Highland ales, all brewed from the finest natural ingredients and the purest of crystal clear water from the Cairngorm Mountains. Black Gold(ABV 4.4%) follows in the footsteps of Tradewinds, last year's winning ale and is described as a delicious cask ale - an award-winning Scottish Stout with a rich dark colour, traditional smooth sweetness with underlying hints of roast barley. Trade Winds (ABV 4.3%) also did very well - winning second place this year. A light, golden-coloured ale with high proportion of wheat and corn which gives it a clean fresh taste, masses of hop, fruit and citrus flavours with elder flower on the nose. (In third place was Black Cuillin from the Isle of Skye Brewery) Many pubs around the Highlands and beyond stock Black Gold, Trade Winds while visitors can also visit Cairngorm Brewery in Aviemore and experience the traditional Scottish methods used to create their range of beers, meet the Brewers and enjoy a free tasting. |
