Winter in the Highlands of Scotland

Winter is a great time to visit the Highlands - and it's not just for the winter sports although little can beat a brisk walk on a crisp winter's day or the exhilaration of day's skiing or snowboarding - both followed by a welcome dram in front of a roaring fire, of course.

With the cold clear air, particularly on a clear frosty morning, the views in winter are unsurpassed. Wildlife is easier to spot as well - deer come down off the mountains and birds come to winter here in their thousands. So, with fewer people around, what better time to visit the Highlands - either to escape the hustle and bustle of the festive season or just for a relaxing break.

To help you plan your winter escape we've put together some walking and wildlife articles to so you know the best places to go, and we have a number of offers this winter throughout the Highlands of Scotland - see:-

Have a look at VisitScotland's Highlands pages for some great things to do this winter.
