Speyside The area of Speyside encompasses the surroundings of the famous River Spey, the fastest flowing river in the British Isles. This is Malt Whisky Country, where connoisseurs of the ‘water of life’ can follow the popular trail taking in eight of Scotland’s finest distilleries including Glenfiddich and the Speyside Cooperage at Craigellachie; here visitors can see skilled coopers at work, explore the exhibition centre and peruse the gift shop. The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival in May and September is one of many great events taking place each year.
If you’re planning on exploring Moray, Speyside is a perfect base for visiting the beautiful glens and beaches. Discover the vast range of walks, trails and outdoor activities on the Glenlivet Estate and why not try salmon fishing at the spectacular River Avon. Walkers love the many trails through the area, like the famous ‘Speyside Way’
and ‘Moray Coastal Trail’. At 345m discover the Highland’s highest village, Tomintoul, where interesting gift shops await. The area has a long and varied history and visitors can explore the buildings and surroundings of many historic sites including the grand Ballindalloch and Balvenie Castles. |
