The Highland's grouse shooting and red deer stalking are renowned throughout the world. Shooting takes two main forms: competitive shooting at targets and field shooting. Competitive shooting includes clay pigeon, full-bore and small-bore rifle and pistol shooting and air guns. There are opportunities to try your skill with shooting clay pigeons. Tuition is available and competitions can be arranged. Shooting as a field sport covers wildfowling, game, rough shooting, deer stalking, pigeon shooting and pest control.

Due to the various season lengths for game, wildfowl and deer, shooting and stalking can be an all-year round activity contributing to the rural economy. Many Highland estates accommodation providers can organise shooting and stalking activities for guests.

The Highlands offers a variety of fishing opportunities including well stocked lochs, salmon rivers and a rugged coastline inhabited by an enormous variety of marine life.

The Scottish Association of Country Sports (SACS) is the national organisation for country sports in Scotland. SACS has produced a Handbook of Country Sports detailing agents and estates offering fishing, shooting and stalking.
