Tours & Cruises
Sometimes you need the locals to help you make the most of your visit. That's a good reason to take an organised tour or cruise.
That way, for example, you can learn a lot about the Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness, if visiting Inverness. Or you could take a tour from Fort William into the heart of Lochaber. Or the National Trust for Scotland will take you out into Glencoe. Similarly, you can enjoy Skye from Armadale, with no worries about driving, or go on a Landrover safari on a Highland estate near Aviemore.
As for cruising, the choice is brilliant, and a great way of seeing the western seaboard, its whales and dolphins (though you can also go dolphin cruising in the Moray Firth in the east as well). Just some of the places offering cruises include Tarbet, for the island of Handa; Plockton or Dunvegan to see seals; Ullapool for the Summer Isles, Gairloch, Lochinver or Elgol for the best view in Britain (of the Cuillins). You could go by boat into Smoo Cave at Durness, visit a garden or a spectacular waterfall by cruising from Kylesku, and as an alternative to salt water, cruise on Loch Shiel from Glenfinnan or of course Loch Ness. These are just some of the ways of relaxing and enjoying your travels, ashore or afloat.
